He lives on a farm, so he had to slop the hogs and milk the cows before he could go anywhere. And the last time he tried to rush and do it at superspeed, he set their udders on fire and was grounded for a month!

If he hadn't been taken out by R-Ban so easily I could work with that, Doc. I sure wish you'd brought it up a couple of weeks ago, darn it! Of course, if he were that good, it might foul up Starsky's plans for Faust's revenge. Still, I'll have to think on this one a little - how could that super-capable guy get taken out so easily and still think the Jr. JSA is a bunch of amateurs? Since no one was seriously injured- any chance he simply was allowing himself to "lose" to observe the Junior JSAers in action before deciding if they were worth joining?

Any chance he just wet his pants and ran away?

Since no one was seriously injured- any chance he simply was allowing himself to "lose" to observe the Junior JSAers in action before deciding if they were worth joining? Seems possible. Not what I had in mind for him, but hey, it would be boring if life always turned out the way we expect it to

Pt 7
“Where’re you old coots at?” Ma Hunkel, the original Red Tornado, exclaimed as she stood in the doorway of the empty JSA conference room. Behind her stood the three would-be JSA Jr members that looked very much as though they didn’t want to be there.
“They’re not here,” a voice said from behind them.
She turned to see Superboy walking towards them. With him were Damage, Whiz Kid, Static, Arrowette, and Flare. They were accompanied by a pair of blonde twin girls who appeared to be around 11 years old.
“Where’d they go?” Ma Hunkel asked.
“I don’t know, but it must have been a pretty big deal,” Whiz Kid said. “They had both the Spectre and Doctor Fate with them.”
“Yeah, so they left us here to babysit the Corrigan twins,” Flare said, gesturing to Diana and Libby Corrigan, the identical blonde girls.
“We don’t need babysitters,” growled Libby, the more tomboyish of the twins. “We just got left behind, same as you!”
“What’s going on?” Superboy asked.
Ma Hunkel quickly recounted the story of the Jr Injustice Society’s attack. The Jr. Injustice Society members stood in shock.
“I suppose I’m going to have to call in the reserves,” Ma Hunkel said.
“The reserves are supposed to be on call in case of emergency when the JSA is gone,” Arrowette said.
“Sweety, in case you hadn’t noticed, this is an emergency,” Red Tornado.
“We’ve handled them before,” Damage said.
“Barely,” Ma Hunkel said. “And don’t think I don’t know some of you are still having nightmares.”
“I’m over it,” Superboy said. “I’ve put it behind me and Amanda is putting it behind her, too. But right now, she’s in the hands of the same people responsible for having nightmares in the first place!”
“That’s exactly why we need to call in the ….,” Ma Hunkel started to say.
“They’ve got R-Ban on their team now,” Superboy interrupted. “I’m the only one with experience fighting him.”
“That’s true,” Ma Hunkel sighed.
“But how are we supposed to find them?” Static said in his crisp British accent. “Batwing is the only one with any detective training.”
“X-ray vision here,” Superboy said, pointing to his eyes.
“You think Faust doesn’t know that you have X-ray vision, sport?” Ma Hunkel said.
Diana Corrigan suddenly raised her hand hesitantly. “Um… we might be able to help.”
“You? How?” Flare said with surprise.
“What do you mean, sweety?” Ma Hunkel asked.
“There’s this thing we can do…. It’s kind of hard to explain,” Libby said. “It might just be easier if we show you…”
The twins turned to each other and joined hands. A light seemed to radiate from inside them and their forms became transparent. Their images flowed towards each other and began to merge. With a flash of light, they became one.
The figure that now stood before them was a teenaged version of Diana and Libby. She was clad in golden armor and wings of light unfolded behind her. Her solid white eyes glowed as she said, “I am the angel Ariel, daughter of Aztar… he who was remade into the embodiment of the wrath of God. The daughter of Jim Corrigan was to be my vessel, but became twins in the womb, splitting my essence in two. Now, they may reform me when they so choose.”
“Whoa,” Arrowette exclaimed.
“You said you can help us find them?” Whiz Kid asked.
“Faust uses dark magic,” Ariel said. “I can track it.”
“Then what are we waiting for?” Flare said. “Let’s go get them!”
They all ran towards the front double doors at the entrance to the Brownstone. Ariel, in the lead, caused them to fly open with a gesture of her hand.
“Wait just a gosh darn minute!” Ma Hunkel exclaimed. “You kids get back here!”
She was just about to go after them when her eyes landed on the large map in the main room. Several areas were lit up, indicating crimes and disasters in progress. The reserves were needed and it was her job to call them in. “Aw dang it, you kids better be okay.”
She turned to the three potential members behind her and said, “You three might as well go after them and get some on the job training.”
“Hah!” the bald, statuesque Lisha Lisha scoffed. “This was all my agent’s idea and it was a terrible one! He is so fired!” she turned on her heels and stomped towards the door. “I’m outta here!”
Ma Hunkel turned to Peggy. “How about you?”
“I… I can’t! I just can’t!” Peggy said, bursting into tears as she turned and ran. “I’m too scared! I’m sorry! I’m so sorry!”
“I guess that just leaves you,” she said to the remaining grey clad applicant.
“I don’t think so,” he laughed. “I didn’t come here to see if I was good enough for you. I came here to see if you were good enough for me. You’re not.” With a blue flash of light, he disappeared.
“Sunova!” Ma Hunkel exclaimed. “If he ever tunes up again, I hope it’s as a villain so my kids can whup his butt!”

I like it. I think in some future story, Peggy might confront her fears, but she really got off to a tough start.

Thanks. Someday Star Sapphire might be someone good to council her about overcoming fears.

I loved this chapter! Great characterization, and great use of the Corrigan girls.

Thanks! When I saw that Jim Corrigan had twins, it seemed like a natural fit.

I'm surprised the development with the Corrigan girls hasn't drawn more reactions.

Just read this one. Liked the idea you had for the Corrigan twins. Very cool and clever.

Maybe Dave can develop the idea a bit further in his Spectre stories by showing how it started.

I thought I commented on this. I was fascinated by giving the Spectre a legacy hero. The twins have real potential to be the mightiest heroes on the Junior JSA.
(Theologically, angels do not have daughters, but this is comics, so have at thee!)

Thanks, guys! This seemed like the best spiritual successor to the Spectre (pun intended) and worked even better with twins who could combine into a more mature version.
