I wonder why they are picking those 2 specific posts repeatedly? Could there be keywords in them? Are spambots that smart?

Keywords, yes, though I’m not sure which ones.

So... I could cut down on spam by changing the message board settings to registered posting only. This would mean that you have to be signed in to post anything. Most of us are already, though I think Dave often posts without using his account, so it might be an inconvenience for him and others. Thoughts?

well, if you make people sign up in order to post, we will see even fewer posts than we do now. It is not really a major annoyance to me, although I wish I knew what are the keywords that attract them.
Is there any way to lock a particular thread so nobody can post there any longer, or lock a specific thread to only registered users? It seems that the Legion of Justice thread is the major attractor. Maybe just delete that thread? Warn me first so I can save the content, otherwise I don't mind.

I’d never delete a thread unless the thread itself is nothing but spam. I could lock it temporarily, which I have done one or two times before to cut down on spam.

I admire your integrity as the forum manager. Perhaps you could try changing the name, or moving the thread into one of the restricted forums?
