Origins: Axis Hans
Hitler had many mad ideas to bring about the domination of the world by national socialism. He believed in German nationalism fanatically. As Operation Barbarossa ground on, Hitler became increasingly frustrated by stories of German surrender. He could not understand why the German people did not have the fanatical devotion to their nation that he had.
In the midst of all this, Himmler came to Hitler with a plan. SS mystics of the Thule Society had discovered a way to give form to the Nazi Zietgeist, the spirit of the nation. They had developed a mystic ceremony which would create a talisman of Nazism. The power of the talisman would create a living embodiment of the Germany and the Nazi way of life. Hitler was thrilled by the idea. On the required night, in the Fuhrer bunker for security reasons, Hitler, Himmler, Goerring, Goebbels, Heydrich, Funk, Keitel, Bormann, Jodl, Schirach, Streicher, Rosenburg, and Ribbentrop gathered for the ceremony. Symbols of Nazism, such as the Blood Flag, and elements of the cultures of all German people, such as a norse ax, were fused together into the Talisman of Fascism.
The power of the Talisman reached out across Germany, and bonded itself to the soul of a young, idealistic German solider named Hans, dying at Stalingrad. Hans was resurrected as Axis Hans, the living embodiment of Nazi Germany. He possessed awesome powers, include size-changing and superhuman strength, directly proportional to the German people's belief in Nazism. Throughout the war he battled against the allies, often meeting defeat thanks to the subtle but significant actions of golden age mystery men, particularly his arch enemy, the German anti-nazi Captain Germany. As the war ground down to its conclusions, and the German people began to loose their faith in the Nazi ideology, the power of Axis Hans waned. He finally dissipated in April of 1945, when Germany surrendered, though many claimed that he lingered own in a weakened state, until the Nuremberg trials exposed the truth of the holocaust to the world. This was the final straw, that kill the idea of Nazism
But, unfortunately, not forever. Hatred is a contagious force, that often lives on in new forms. Decades after the war, the Talisman of Fascism was discovered by private treasure hunters, and sold on the black market. It came into the hands of modern day Neo-nazis, who dreamed of restoring Axis Hans, and bringing about the restoration of Fascism. They performed a new ceremony, with Neo-nazis, racists, and ultraright radicals from many nations, to revive the power of the Talisman. Axis Hans was reborn. He was a bit confused and disoriented at first, finding his nature strangely changed, less tied to the German national identity, less rooted. He was also much weaker then he had been, even late in the war. He decided to supplement his power by taking advantage of the new age of metahuman villains, recruiting several to the Neo-facist cause. The team he formed were called the Enslavers. With the support of the Enslavers, he led his group of Neo-Nazi terrorists to take Congress and the President hostage, and try to overthrow the government of the United States. However, the Enslavers were defeated, and Axis Hans driven off, by a newly emerged hero called the Grey Shade. With their superpowered champions defeated, the remaining terrorists lost heart and were rounded up.
More on the Grey Shade next time. . .

Black Knight In the 6th century AD, England enjoyed a brief period of prosperity and peace, under the reign of good King Arthur. He was one of the greatest monarchs in history, and his glorious court of Camelot, and his roundtable of noble knight, became the stuff of legend. In all this, Arthur’s closest advisor was his beloved sister, the wise and kindly sorceress Morgaine le Fay. With her council, and often her magical aid, Arthur was able to guide Camelot over danger after danger, to greater and greater heights of glory. However, there was a snake in the garden of Camelot, the crafty, and power-hungry wizard Merlin. The wily old wizard was a scheming, Machiavellian manipulator, who had insinuated himself as one of Arthur’s advisors when the boy was young and impressionable. Nobody in Camelot trusted Merlin, but Arthur still respected his old teacher, and kept him at court, and even ignored Morgaine’s distaste for Merlin, thinking it nothing more than professional rivalry and inappropriate personal dislike. But Merlin soon perceived that Arthur would never be the puppet that he wanted. He needed to overthrow Arthur, and place somebody more malleable on the throne so he could rule from behind it. His eye soon fell on a certain knight named Justin. Sir Justin was, like Merlin, despised by most of the knights, though he tried to put on a charming and knightly demeanor at court, he was at heart a power-hungry barbarian. He longed for the days before Arthur, when he obeyed no laws and did what he pleased, looting, pillaging, and taking what he wanted. He enjoyed the fine life, and cared for nothing but winning by any means. Merlin secretly supplied Justin with a magic sword, nearly as powerful as Excalibur, a suit of indestructible black armor, and even enchanted his black charger Victory with wings. Then, while Morgaine was away from Camelot looking for lost books of magic, Justin challenged Arthur to a duel. With his magical armor, and dirty tricks, Justin pushed Arthur to the brink of defeat. In the flush of victory, he bragged aloud how it was Merlin who had supplied him with these magic weapons, and would make him King when Arthur was dead. Suddenly, Morgaine returned, and just before Sir Justin could kill Arthur, she turned the traitor knight and his horse to stone. The knights moved to seize Merlin, but he vanished in a cloud of smoke. This was the beginning of the end for Camelot. Driven into exile, Merlin would raise up new menaces to Arthur, until his armies brought the golden age to a savage end. Merlin never profited from his intrigues, since Morgaine was eventually able to imprison him in a crystal cave. But that was not the end of Sir Justin. Thousands of years past, and eventually his statue was discovered by archeologists, and found its way to the Metropolitan museum in New York City. Morgaine le Fay had tried to curse Justin with an eternity of stone, but she was a good sorceress, a practitioner of white magic, unlike Merlin’s black magic. Despite her wishes, her spell could not last forever, and eventually one stormy night in the autumn of 1941, the spell broke. Justin was at first bewildered by the incredible world of 1941. Shortly after awakening, he was discovered by a young museum assistant, who was starting work the next day. Justin killed the assistant, took his clothes, and eventually assumed his identity. He found the job simple to learn, since all he had to do was explain the meaning the items and events from the early middle ages and late roman empire. In the meantime, Justin used every spare moment to explore this future world, learn it’s customs, and (most importantly) learn where to acquire wealth and luxuries. For his taste for high living remained, as well as his taste for violence. Soon he began pillaging again, robbing banks and stories instead of castles and villages. He always introduced himself as Sir Justin of Camelot, but the newspapers soon gave him another name, the Black Knight.

Klarn the Conqueror
As long as the Scholar has been trying to guide humanity, there has been another hand at work in the world. It is the hand of his arch-rival, Klarn the Conqueror. While Vandar has always dedicated himself to improving the human condition, Klarn is interested only in increasing his own wealth and power. Vandar belives that humans have the potential to grow beyond hatred, greed, fear and the lust for power. Klarn, however, believes that humans that humans never change, and that he is simply better than most at getting what he wants, because he lives longer.
Both immortals gained their powers from the same meteor in the prehistory. Klarn exploited the discoveries of Vandar and used them to conquer other, neighboring tribes. Wracked with guilt, Vandar fought Klarn for the first time and defeated him, imprisoning him for centuries. They would clash again and again over the millennia.
Klarn was often found in the heart of chaos. it was there he found the readiest opportunities to acquire wealth and profit. He was always in search of an empire which would be strong enough to conquer the world. Whenever he found one, he would quickly insert himself into it at the highest levels, particularly in times of great corruption and fear. He has mentioned fighting in both the Trojan War, and the Greco-Persian Wars, though not on which side he was. He also fought against Hannibal in the Punic Wars. He clashed with Vandar in Bronze Age Israel, where he may have helped cause the united kingdom of Solomon to collapse into civil war.
Vandar also has a passion for bloodsports, and claims to have introduced the idea of bull-jumping to the Minoans. He also may be the origin of the idea of god-kings, give his tendency to encourage primitive societies to worship him
He ensconced himself in Rome during the late republic, and remained there through the Roman Empire. He often tried to seize power during military dictatorships, and hoped that Rome would conquer the world with him at the lead. When Rome finally fell, he vanished for a time.
Klarn fought in the Crusades, more for wealth and plunder than religion. Klarn holds no faith sacred except his own selfish desires, though he is usually found as a member of aggressive and radical faiths, since they give him more opportunities to gain power and wealth through persecution.
In the late 12th century, he was a nobleman in Norman England, using the infighting and conspiracies of the late Plantagenets as a tool to amass more wealth and power for himself. He may have been the original Sheriff of Nottingham. He fought Vandar again at this time. He was still in England during the reign of Edward III, and was heavily involved in the Hundred Years War. He may even have started it.
In the late 15th century, he was a high ranking member of the Catholic Church, and instigated the Spanish inquisition as a way to wipe out his enemies. He remained in Spain for most of the 16th century as a Conquistador. Since Klarn has always been xenophoblic, and has no interest in discovery for it's own sake, his involvement in the age of exploration was purely to find weaker people to conquer and pillage.
In the late 17th century, and into the early 18th century, Klarn was a powerful French nobleman during the time nicknamed "the court of poisons" for its many plots and conspiracies. However, by the 1750s he had relocated to Prussia, where he served as a general under Frederick the Great. He did not remain in Prussia long after Frederick's death, however. Attracted by the rise of Napoleon, He moved the France and fought as a Field Marshal in the Napoleonic Wars. He was very disappointed when Napoleon was defeated. He has long remained a great admirer of Napoleon, and continues to wear his uniform from the Grand Armee by preference when in private.
He then settled in America, where he has mentioned that he was a strong supporter of the Federalists, and for a time was a judge. By the time of the Civil War, Klarn had become a general in the Union Army. This was not out of any noble desires such as freeing the slaves, but because he hoped that a stronger Federal government at the expense of the states would move America down the path of becoming an authoritarian empire, which he could rule.
However, shortly after the end of the Civil War, Klarn was attracted to the military expansion going on in Germany. He settled there as a Prussian nobleman, and fought in the German Airforce in World War 1. He was convinced that Germany would win the war, and when they were defeated, he suffered a massive setback and vanished for years. He turned up as a Nazi general in World War 2, closely involved with the Wonderweapon projects.
After the war, Klarn turned up again during the height of Cold War hysteria as a general in the US Marine Corps. He was strongly pushing American militarism, while using the HUAC to hunt down his political enemies, just as he did the Spanish Inquisition.
Klarn's end-goal is to rule an empire of oppression over the whole world. He sees his long life as one enormous campaign. Oh, there are setback here and there, but because he is immortal, the battle will never end until he has complete victory. Vandar, by contrast, dreams of a day when humanity has so transcended their baser emotions that Klarn will be regarded as a madman, never able to gain power again, trapped in a world where he has no place.

Is there an Earth-Three Cheetah already? It'd be interesting to have a more heroic incarnation of Barbara Minerva pitted against Superwoman. Let's say something like this happened: Barbara Minerva is a brilliant zoologist and conservationist, fighting Earth-Three's corrupt corporate establishment for the sake of wildlife protection, especially when it comes to those endangered species like the one who will become her namesake. One of those corporations hires Superwoman as a mercenary and true to her malefic nature, Superwoman devastates much of the local habitat and also kills Barbara's husband and son because of her carelessness and disregard for human life. When Minerva tries to stop Superwoman, she is brutally beaten. At death's door, and at an adjacent ancient African civilisation archaeological dig, Barbara's hands close around a talisman shaped like a cheetah. Abruptly, she ceases to die. However, the talisman has metamorphic attributes, meaning that Barbara can now harness the strength and speed of the Cheetah. She vows to make sure that Superwoman cannot hurt or injure anyone, ever again. Earth-Three's Cheetah has the strength, speed and senses of her namesake totem animal. How does that sound?

We have introduced an Earth-3 version of Deborah Domaine, called the Lynx, who is currently a member of the Society of Super-Heroes. There are, so far, no counterparts of either Priscilla Rich or Barbara Minerva. I see nothing wrong with this idea.

It would be cool to have an index of all these characters on a single page with a link to each one's full bio...

Not sure how useful or wanted some of those would be. Iirc Ribbentrop, for one, was extremely incompetent and all the other important nazis hated him. Also, Heydrich died in june 1942. The Battle of Stalingrad started in august 1942, at which point he had been dead for a while.

It's also a fun writing exercise, to study the original supervillains and heroes, analyze their characters and the writing style of their creators, and imagine what type of villain or hero they would be if their alignments were reversed. For every kind of hero, their is a corresponding opposite number, a matching type of villains, and vice versa. I also had vague ideas like this, but it has been kind of going nowhere.... Plus i'm not sure where i'd put them. This site already has its own continuity and all.

Technically, nothing I have posted here is officially canon yet, since it hasn't been featured in a story. So feel free to post your ideas here.

Maybe I should move to date to 1940?
