This could help: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_StreamI'd probably add , control plant life within her territory. Incidentally, as Earth-Prime/33's Gulf Stream appears to be weakening, what say Earth-CS is more environmentally aware, so her abilities are stronger because its Gulf Stream is? Also, can undo cyclones and hurricanes within her territory.

I'm looking for a name for an unsympathetic character, either not a villain, or not yet proved to be a villain...
1943. He lives in the New York City Metro area, probably the Upper East Side. He is rich; a good part of his money came from donations to the America First Committee before the war started, but he was rich before that too. He was a media darling before the war, but has been getting bad press ever since the war started, so he has become a recluse and has hired bodyguards to prevent media people from even getting close to him. He is a bad person at heart, who was exploiting the anti-war sentiment to enrich himself, and he hopes that by keeping out of the media, sentiment against him will die down and then he can come up with some new schemes.
So I want a name that will make it pretty obvious to readers that he is a bad guy. Maybe even cartoonish name like Snidely Whiplash or Simon Sinister or Dick Dastardly...
Thanks for any suggestions. If you like, I can add you to the current story... I need names for some people at a newsreel company and maybe this guy's bodyguards?

I am wavering between 'Hour Hand', 'Minute Hand', or 'Second Hand' for the name of a (perhaps slightly humorous) super hero. I need some suggestions for which name to choose, and what her powers might be. Her powers should be somehow related to her chosen name.
***
Nova Tempest was a door-to-door wristwatch saleswoman who worked for Oppenheimer Clockworks Co. in the 1950s selling watches. Her premium watches featured: stretchable band; radium-painted hour, minute, and sweep second hands; glow in the dark dial with Arabic numerals; guaranteed accuracy of within a second over 20 years; self-winding; irradiated quartz crystal clockwork mechanism; built-in calendar, compass, and 2 way radio, and depending on the price, loads of other features.
One day while selling watches she passed out in someone's living room and awakened in the hospital. Nobody could tell her what was wrong with her but she felt different. In time, she realized that she had developed super powers and began a career as a super hero, named Minute Hand. It has been theorized that constant exposure to the radium paint used in the watches she wore constantly from the time she was 4 might have caused her body to mutate and develop super powers.
Some possible powers, please suggest others!
Glow green in the dark. Make ticking noises. Always knows the exact time. Precise interval timer. Monitor police band radio. Always emits low-level radiation.
(actually, the glow in the dark and ticking noise generation could be very spooky in the right circumstances...)
Interested in your thoughts, as usual. Thanks in advance!

Okay, I imagine the ability to slow time to almost a halt might be a step too far, as might high-speed intervention against criminal activity (slowing down time so that she can pluck bullets out of the air and get people out of the way of harm, much as the Silver Age Flash can).
How about...
She can tell exactly when an event occurred, right down to the very second or microsecond, which could be extremely useful in forensic cases? She can discern how much time has elapsed at a crime scene, down to very fine details, again, enabling her to significantly assist police investigations? She has the ability to track past radiation emanations of any kind within the environment that she's involved in at the moment. She can tell when someone's fibbing or trying to mislead people because of telltale microelectric cues from the liar in question. She can engage in postmonition, reconstructing details of a past event. She has an eidetic memory (can recall everything in fine detail)
Hope this helps.

I like the one about being able to discern how long it has been since a particular past event. Fits in with the theme. Not much use to an action-based super hero, but that is part of the point, trying to figure out how to use some minor super powers to make a difference. Perhaps because of her long exposure to radium, she is has some sort of 'Geiger sense'. (In fact, I think I will HAVE to call it her Geiger sense!) Perhaps when she is in action, her movements are abrupt but precise.
Thank you! Closer to the power set than before!

The name Second Hand immediately made me think of a character whose power is to gain the power, or ability, or knowledge (skill set) for a short period of time. Or until they are done with whatever task they are doing continuously with the ability.

Or until they are done with whatever task they are doing continuously with the ability. Thank you! I was wondering how I could use that particular meaning. I think I will go with Second Hand, and add some variation of that ability. It is totally unrelated to any time based power and the difference between the powers will probably confuse the villains she faces off with. If they expect time based powers (her costume will be strongly clock-themed) they won't expect a second-hand version of their own powers, for example... It may be a really long time before anyone figures it out, too, which is good for catching them by surpise.

Say, when it comes to her exact temporal recognition ability, she closes her eyes and gets the following mental images -Days 1 (Thursday April 3) -Hours 8 (8.15 am) -Minutes 12 (8.15.36 am) -Seconds 20 (8.15.36.13 am)
...She turns to the police officer next to her and says: "Say, Lou, can you provide me with a list of what the shopkeepers around here might have seen or heard when they were just opening up on Thursday, April 3, at around 8.15 am?"
