A super hero who is a member of a famous super hero team, resident in a particular city, is defeated in an aerial battle by a super villain. The hero crashes to Earth, injured, and passes out on the grounds of an estate, owned by him in his secret identity, outside that city, but still within the city limits. The victorious villain lands, stands gloating over his fallen enemy for a few taunts, and then takes to the skies again, heading away from the city. He apparently is satisfied with his victory and determines not to kill the hero.
The hero's wife (a retired hero herself) is a school teacher and she is at work, unaware of the battle (at least initially). The Chief of Police and a doctor at the city's major hospital are among the few who know the super hero's civilian identity. The Chief, and the hero's wife, each have ways to contact the super hero team.
I'm trying to imagine some likely actions, events, and occurrences that might happen away from the fight and after the fight...
The estate is not isolated - it is likely that people nearby would notice the flashes of energy in the sky and call the police. The dispatcher is likely trained to recognize the signs of super hero activity and would release a special response team and notify the Chief of Police. I think the Chief would notify the super team, and then when he learned that the battle is over and the hero is either seriously injured or dead, he would notify the hospital to send an emergency team, and request that the doctor in the know be included in the team.
So... would the city have some kind of alarm system to notify citizens that there was a super battle taking place nearby and they should go into lockdown? It seems unlikely that this is the first such battle that has occurred in the 5 years or so the hero has called the city 'home'. So what would the normal response of the city government and the citizens be to another such battle?
If there wasn't a city-wide notice, would anyone notify the wife who is teaching in a public elementary school? This would likely disrupt the school and would eventually provide clues that could reveal the hero's secret identity. If the wife found out, would she likely rush right to her husband's side, or would she stop and change to her own heroic identity first?
How would the hero team respond? They have a mage who could magically transport people to the hero's home from the hero HQ, but she's not at HQ right now, she's in her civilian identity over a thousand miles away. The nearest super fast hero is at least 15 minutes away, plus whatever time it takes to contact him. The rapid response team from HQ would take at least a half hour to get to the scene, assuming it takes them about 5 minutes to assemble and launch.
How is the hero's identity protected? His secret identity is in the hospital and he shows up missing, and there are probably people who saw him fall from the sky at the end of the battle. His retired wife has the same powers as he does - do you think they have a plan in place for her to take his place if he is out of action temporarily?
I'm thinking I'm going to simplify. When the cops arrive at the scene, they see the bad guy leaving so when they notify the Chief, he does not issue a city-wide alert. He does send an alert to the hero team but not yet a request for assistance, and then he and the doctor go to the scene to try and protect the hero's identity. I guess the event can occur after school has let out so his wife won't find out until she's driving home.
I'd really be interested in your take on all these things. What would it really be like to have a super hero who is based in your city?
