Is there a program or app (since a lot of laptops now prefer to call them such) that helps with the page layout of a book, specifically, a nonfiction book? I'm looking for something that would allow me me to how pages would look with sidebars for certain people or situations. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hey Lee, I tried searching for something on osalt.com, which has listings of open source programs. I searched for alternatives to InDesign (which is the industry-standard for page layouts), and this is what I found: osalt.com/indesign#altsIt suggests using Scribus. I haven't looked into this myself, but hopefully it could work for you. There might be a bit of a learning curve to figure out how to use it, though. I know it took me a while to get the hang of InDesign. osalt.com/scribus

yeah, InDesign is the industry standard. If you wanted to spend some bucks and take some courses, it would be the best choice. Otherwise, here's another site similar to the one Doc linked above: www.theknowledgeacademy.com/blog/adobe-indesign-alternative/Scribus seems to be their first choice as well.
