So, two heroines are sneaking around in the abandoned Reiter Shipyard in San Francisco at 2 AM. The bad guys are using this place as their hideout, and they know the ladies are coming, so they have set an ambush. I need some fairly loud background noises to interfere with the highly enhanced hearing of one of the heroines - it would be way too easy for the heroines if she were able to say 'There's 6 of them waiting in ambush, and they are there, there and there' and just point to their hiding places. But I already established that she can hear that well. So in a factory that's been abandoned for 10 years, what might be making an appreciable amount of background noise? Doesn't have to be really loud, just loud enough to cover the sounds a resting human would make - breathing, heartbeat, stomach noises, etc...
It just occurred to me that she may have a cold. A shipyard is usually close to the water, so maybe there is a storm and some crashing waves. Which might make the old abandoned buildings squeak and rattle some, too...
Any other plausible ideas? Thanks!

Instead of a storm, maybe there's just fog. A nearby ship approaches and uses its fog-horn, which drowns out all other noises in the area.
If this was near a train yard, I'd suggest a train whistle. I live near one in my city, and at 3 AM every night they blast that whistle several times!

Fog horn sounds good, especially in San Francisco
