So, there seems to be a fascinating new book out shortly entitled The Witches of World War II. As followers of Earth-Two WW2 continuity are aware, Hitler and Tojo/Hirohito presided over the use of enchanted artefacts to make sure Allied metahumans didn't descend en masse on Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to bring the perpetrators of the European and Pacific wars to justice. Logic suggests that there must have been some reciprocal counter-response in the United Kingdom to insure that the UBA/"Axis Amerika" didn't similarly darken the lands beyond the White Cliffs of Dover. One book that suggests that there might have been a group of white wiccans who cast a reciprocating ward spell to protect the United Kingdom is Katherine Kurtz' Lammas Night, but I've been unable to hunt down a second-hand copy for our purposes thus far. Happily, in July 2023, Simon and Schuster is coming up with its own version of this particular legend. In Witches of World War Two, British fantasy and SF author Paul Cornell has asked the same question and dragooned together Doreen Valiente, Aleister Crowley (!), Dion Fortune, Gerald Gardner and Rollo Ahmed to engage in some magical intervention against the Third Reich. Interesting idea, a fictionalised version of what might have happened if the British high command decided it needed supernatural countermeasures. Could be used in a Times Past Earth-Two story explaining why the UBA/AA didn't intrude on the shore of the United Kingdom- because they couldn't!
