Moan. I swore I was through writing the further adventures of the Horned Owl and his wife Midnight Angel, but there's a story idea lurking in the background of my mind that just won't let me go. Okay. The outline is this. It's now 1948. The Allies have won the Second World War and Georg and Rosalie Von Tregor have retired from their active wartime heroics. That is, until Rosalie receives some disturbing news about an old enemy of theirs- black marketeer Harry Lime (yes, the one from Graham Greene's The Third Man). He's peddled contaminated drugs to children's hospitals and the consequences have been either death or severe intellectual impairment. The three of them have history- and what is more, someone from Georg's own German past wants vengeance on him. With a chilly European political environment as the Cold War dawns, will Georg and Rosalie make it out of Vienna alive?

Oh, and for those curious about the medical angle at the core of the story, I'm married to a doctor and he provided me with the following highly useful British Medical Journal reference: Paul Newton and Brigitte Timmerman: "Fake Penicillin, the Third Man and Operation Claptrap" British Medical Journal: 13.12.2016: www.bmj.com/content/355/bmj.i6494Sadly, the concluding paragraph notes that cases of contaminated medication from unscrupulous black marketeers still happens today in theatres of conflict. It'd be interesting to track the historical provenance of some of the more abhorrent cases in case some of you want to use the same plot point in some of your work. It'd be interesting to see some of the detective-oriented members of the Five Earths hero community treat this issue. It'd have to be a somewhat noirish story in tone, as mine is.
