Anybody know what issue a Lois Lane story appeared in with Power-Man the King of Outer Space proposing to Lois? See screen shot below from Superman #136 April 1960? Was this story actually written? Has Lib written a story including this obscure character yet?
Totally different subject, from the same story...
It is hard to believe how awful the writers of that time treated their characters, and how awful they were as people, and how they treated each other...
X-Plam, the protagonist in that story, journeyed back through time because he fell in love with Lois. She originally treated him like crap because he looked kind of like a Durlan, but breathing 1960 Earth air turned him into a man as handsome as a Greek god. Because he was handsome, super powered, gave her a diamond, and professed that he loved her, Lois actually married him. They went through time and Lois breathed his air and both she and he changed back into the Durlan-like forms - and she got super powers. But she immediately started watching Superman on the time viewer, and X-Plam realized she would never be happy with him - so he exposed himself to a lethal dose of radiation and committed suicide by radiation poisoning...
HEY! Let's create a heroic, sympathetic character and almost instantly kill him off in one of the most painful ways possible!!! Yeah, that sounds GREAT!!
He sends Lois back to the present. She is more worried about Superman seeing her in her present form than she is concerned that someone just died because of her, and the next day, her major concern is whether Superman missed her while she was away. That sounds just exactly like the kind of woman Superman should fall for, huh?

Thanks to Mort Weisinger. He was all kinds of messed up. I love it and hate it at the same time.

Perhaps, the radiation did not truly kill him but left him in some death-like state of suspended animation. Maybe, he could revive now.

The story in question was "The Man Who Married Lois Lane" Superman 136 (April 1960): dc.fandom.com/wiki/Superman_Vol_1_136Power Man's bio: "X-Plam [is] a chameleon-like being from the year 2360, where humanity has all mutated into similar beings by a passing comet. He has come to the year 1960 because he had uncovered an ancient newspaper from the Daily Planet with a headline that states Lois Lane is intended to marry a man from the future: namely X-Plam." "Lois decides to go for it anyway, and the two are married, in spite of Superman's warnings that upon returning to the future, X-Plam will likely change back to his original form. Lois ignores this, marries X-Plam and the two return to the future, where not only does X-Plam turn into his former form, but Lois also is mutated into a similar being." Realising that Lois misses Superman, Power Man "...decides to get more fuel for the time machine and bring her back to the present. However, the fuel proves to be highly radioactive, and X-Plam's second exposure to it proves fatal, however he does not die until he successfully gets Lois back to her own time. Back in her own time, the saddened Lois reverts back to her original form, reunited with Superman, they both wish that X-Plam had found the next day's edition of the Daily Planet, the one which reported that Lois had become a widow." Hmm. This version doesn't make Lois sound like a complete jerk, though. And anyway, contextually, being an immature jerk wasn't solely her province. Superman, Jimmy Olsen and the rest of the supporting cast were just as bad in certain events.

Superman was the one who wished that X-Plam had seen the next day's papers. Lois sobbed once and then said "I can't let anyone else see me like this!!"
But you're right - acting like jerks seemed to be a major schtick for many DC characters during the 50s... there are pages and pages of content describing 'super dickery'...

well, crud, Doc, now I gotta throw away the whole story I just started on! Or maybe I just change his name to Vigor Man and his title to 'King of the Oort Cloud"...

Sorry, Dan! I didn't realize you were write a story. Well, you could always turn it into a sequel! My Power-Man story won't really go into much depth about his history or his star-spanning empire, so there's a lot to work with. Obviously, Power-Man doesn't end up marrying Lois. *Spoilers* But perhaps he eventually ends up finding his own bride somewhere out there not long after this story. As well, Power-Man could always return to Earth and try to make a second attempt at winning Lois' heart if you wanted to write that. There's a lot of story possibilities for a sequel.
