the Flame Dragon reached Earth somehow in the early 50s (drifted through space, it implies in the story...) and ate a Red Kryptonite meteor which had the delayed effect of taking away its powers. Then Superman froze it into a block of ice and set it orbiting the sun out in the Kuiper Belt somewhere... shouldn't it have recovered its powers after 24 hours? I guess it must have just flown on to some other solar system... or maybe it just liked eating the stuff in the Kuiper Belt and so it sill hangs out there.
I wonder what the difference is between a Snagrif and a Flame Dragon? The look almost identical, although one has a purple crest and the other has a green crest...

Different sub-species of the same creature, possibly?

I wonder if there was ever a Kryptonian Animal Man type who could draw on creatures like that or the Rhondar (sp)?

I recall Beast Boy from the Heroes of Lallor being able to transform into any kind of animal. I’m sure he could have (and possibly did) become a Kryptonian animal at some point before he died.
Something like that happened in Brian Asbury’s Wanderers origin story, BTW. I can’t recall which one did that. He became a Winged One, anyway.

As Insect Queen, Lana Lang could transform into Kryptonian insects, an ability that Lois Lane shared when she used the same ring- as well as the larcenous Velvet O'Mara, who stole the Biogenetic Ring, but was tricked into becoming a magnetic insect, which meant it repelled the metal of the biogenetic ring as well as anything else metallic: "Beware of the Bug Belle" Supermans Girlfriend Lois Lane 69 (August 1966): dc.fandom.com/wiki/Superman%27s_Girl_Friend,_Lois_Lane_Vol_1_69 However, I suspect you didn't mean invertebrates. I'm not sure how it would work out with dragons, as technically speaking, they're reptiloid - although birds are descended from reptiles too. It's a question of when draconoids split off from the main genus of reptiloids. If it was close to, or shortly after birds diverged, then Ornitho might be capable of draconoid transformation due to overlapping DNA or RNA. Insofar as Kryptonian animals went, much probably depends on whether the metamorph in question actually adopted the substantive form of a Kryptonian draconoid, with its amenability to ultrasolar radiation from yellow suns, or a convergent evolutionary example from a yellow sun environment which wouldn't have any Kryptonian superpowers. Incidentally, given the ubiquity of superpowers across the Kryptonian biosphere, it's probable that the amenability to ultra solar radiation is probably something cellular and was potentially present from the first appearance of life on Krypton. This suggests it's in their DNA or RNA- probably potentially present as a latent epigenetic trait (so called "junk DNA") which would activate as soon as environmental conditions were right. Perhaps there were microscopic flecks of gold kryptonite in the predominantly red kryptonite meteor, which rendered its effects permanent?

Perhaps there were microscopic flecks of gold kryptonite in the predominantly red kryptonite meteor, which rendered its effects permanent? seems possible. However, the dragon retained its powers for several hours after swallowing the Red K before the Red K became effective. Perhaps putting the two types of K into a combination somewhat altered the powers of each of them to have a delayed effect...
