I've been looking at a few DC timelines and with the exception of Jonah Hex's birthday, very few of them match. I saw one that had Bat Lash born around 1861, while another had him a full 10 years older than Jonah. Using our E-1 timeline as the base, I've decided to write up a timeline for the 19th century...if no one minds, of course. Aside from the stories written here, it will be based on the pre- Crisis timeline.

Since Jonah's death is listed as 1904, I will probably include the death dates of any characters who made it into the 20th century.

Sounds like fun...
Are you going to use the existing E1 timeline as a source of character names?

Yes. And when it comes to characters who have no known birthday, I am using a combination of the year and month of their first appearance.

So, I have run into a small issue with the 19th century. In the current timeline, Alicia Huston (from the orphaned story Willows and Hexes I am working on) is listed as becoming Lady Jane in 1851. After reading the source material (Swamp Thing v2 #120), I realized the transformation was written to have taken place in roughly 1853. Lady Jane begins her narration by saying it was 1851 and the beginning of her descent into Hell. This is the day she and her family were leaving their home. The timeline for the 19th century will reflect this new year.

So, I think the timeline I am working on for Earth-1's 19th century might end up being a bit larger than expected. I am including real world history, such as the birth and/or death dates of every US president active in the 1800s(John Adams to William McKinley) and the various wars America was involved in. I am also including the births and deaths and, possibly, selected exploits of a number of the lawmen, outlaws, and other characters of note. In addition to the real world stuff, I have downloaded most of the DC Western titles and I will be including the highlights from these stories as well. By being so detailed, I hope that if any other writers want to try their hand in the 19th century, there will be plenty of inspiration.
Are there any objections to such a timeline?

Godspeed, brother. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with. It will certainly help me when I get around to writing my Rough Bunch stories.

I believe DC's western, Historical, and WWII characters existed on multiple Earths. Tomahawk is active in the 1740's, Revolutionary War and beyond. Two different tales where Ice Cream Soldier and Sunny of Easy Co. die. Plus, three different versions of Haunted Tank. The first is commanded by Sgt Jeb Stuart Smith whose idol was General Stuart. He and his best friends were his cousins Corporal Slim Halsey drove the tank, Private Rick Halsey was the gunner of the 37mm main gun, with Corporal Arch Halsey as the loader were probably in the national guard when WWII started. The Second version is commanded by Sgt Jeb Stuart, who like his crew all hail from the northern “Yankee” States Corporal Slim Stryker drove the tank. Slim's brother died on Bataan during the Death March and he hated any and all Japanese until he was save by a Nisei soldier. Private Rick Rawlins was the gunner of the 37mm main gun, with Corporal Arch Asher as the loader. The third version was almost identical to the third except Jeb was a Northerner and his crews were southerners.

I'd love to read this. Have you seen the timeline I made of the past of Earth-1? It could give you some useful information.I'll attach it here Five Earths Past.docx (119.95 KB)

I get the feeling most western comics were edited by people who were of the opinion "It's just a western, so make sure it has cowboys and Indians"; rather than people who gave two shakes about accuracy. Pretty sure I would not have been a popular editor among the writers of those books. "What do you mean Brian Savage was taken by the Kiowa twenty years ago? Do you know what years the Kiowa were attacking white settlers? What about the area of the United States these attacks were taking place?" I can see playing a bit looser with timelines that centered around superheroes, but with characters who's whole existence relies on a specific era in American history... unacceptable.

Yup. I've only delved a bit into it so far, and I've seen similar things.
DC's war comics have a lot of anachronisms, too.

Of course, it IS a comic book, set in a fictional universe. It is fantastic that you guys and others try to make it fit a realistic time line, but continuity has not always been a leading criteria for comics, it was more like 'how can we get them excited enough in this issue to spend their nickel on westerns next month?!?!'
I think if you are referencing actual printed stories which have a date in them in your time line, and the in-story date is not realistic, insert them into the time line where they belong and then add a disclaimer to your time line for anyone who is reading stories in the order your time line presents.
"Some of the original stories referenced in this time line may refer to real events and include dating in the stories that is inconsistent with the referenced events. Stories such as this are inserted in the time line at the most appropriate dates regardless of incorrect internal dating.*
*Note that this timeline is for entertainment purposes and does not claim to be 100% accurate in placing all of these fictional stores. Please feel free to read the referenced stories in whatever order you chose!"
